When a friend of mine was doing some training hikes for the 7 peaks challenge (his version of the Phoenix Summit Challenge), he had an idea while on the top of lookout mountain. He could see from Camelback to Shaw butte and noticed that it was mostly mountain preserve between them, so he started messing with a path on Googgle Earth that would take him from the East side of Camelback all the way to Lookout. Then he started hiking sections of it on the weekends to make sure the trail is doable. A couple weekends ago, he ran into a private fence road between Camelback and Piestewa; they had to backtrack. He went back to the drawing board and found a new route. One weekend, he and a friend hiked the first half of the trail and the weekend after I joined them for the second half. So now that we are sure all the trails can be connected, we are ready to hit the trails on the early morning of Saturday February 7th, luckily there is a full moon that weekend. We plan to have a car stashed at the Dream Draw parking lot with supplies-water, bars, etc.. and to have another one at the Visitor Center parking lot at Shaw butte with the same.
The total mileage is 25.5 miles and we think it will take about 11 hours to complete.
Will keep you all posted!

Wow - you are crazy! I know you will love it.
that sounds like so much...fun. :)
You are insane. And motivating. I'm not in good enough shape to accomplish something that intense but it would be awesome! (working on the shorter hikes for now. :)
