My friend Lisa is turning the big 4-0 at the end of February and to celebrate she wanted to do something special with her girlsfriends. For a long time she has been wanting to go to Napa on a wine tasting tour but that would take a lot of planning and money. Doing a little research, she found that there are a few vineyards in Arizona and one in particular was offering a really fun all inclusive tour.
On Saturday, 11 of her friends met at a central location from where a Hummer Limo picked us up to take us to Chino Valley, AZ. The limo was HUGE and we were all so excited and gitty! We loaded the limo with all kinds of delicious treats : cheese, crackers, nuts, fruit, olives, chocolate covered strawberries and got on our way. For two hours we chatted and got to know each other by telling how we knew Lisa and our most memorable event with her.
I had previouly met (briefly) just 3 of the women and Lisa. As I said, there was 11 of us ranging in age from 33 to 55 and of all walks of life. It was great to meet her friends and celebrate with her in this way.
At about 12.30 pm we got to the Vineyard and went to the tasting room. We tried 8 different wines (all of which were 100% produced in Arizona, organic and free of sulfates), picked two bottles of our favorites, the Chenin Blanc and the Red Zindfandel and headed for lunch. Lunch was very satisfying and the wine tasted even better in regular size portions! The weather was perfect and the environment was so relaxed yet there was great jubilation.
After lunch, many headed back to the tasting room to purchase wine, then we got back into our extravagant vehicle and got on our way back to Phoenix. The ride back was considerably more quiet than the initial commute but it was very enjoyable as we all agreed that Lisa could not have picked a better way to celebrate her 40 years in this earth... Happy Birthday Lisa!
