Our 10th anniversary… the reveal.

The truth is I kept a secret from to my husband for months! It all started back in March when I decided the nothing less than a long weekend away from home (and the children) would do for our 10th anniversary celebration. After confirming that we could use a friends’ beach home in California and asking them not to mention anything to Mike… I proceeded into the next step of planning: I called Mike’s work and asked the office manager if he could have the days off. She checked with the boss and called me back with clearance… once more, I asked her to cover for me. She did.

Things were going pretty smooth until about 3 weeks before the planned getaway, when the office manager called me because she had seen Mike researching the internet for places to go for our anniversary. Panic! So.. I put my brain to work and got someone else involved … This person called Mike to tell him that although he doesn’t know much, he knows that “someone” is planning an anniversary getaway for us during Memorial day weekend and that we should not plan anything for ourselves…. this person also called me with the same information… as time went by, this messenger continued to give us small clues. I played along while Mike racked his brain wondering who this very thoughtful and generous person could be?

Just a few days before the trip, Mike was handed an envelope with cash and I was handed a key… then we were informed to check our email on the morning of the trip and we were given a packing list…

Early afternoon on Thursday, Mike came home to his email and found directions and list of things to do during our trip. We then dropped the kids off at the address provided and took off westward!

I am not sure at what point Mike discovered my involvement but he kept asking me “ did you know about this?”…

The weekend was absolutely restful! We walked, read, rented a kayak, went running , had uninterrupted conversations during dinner. We were thankful for time away together. In the morning we walked by the pier and enjoyed the weather with a hot cup of coffee… and later we would explore the entire town aboard beach cruisers, ah…

Mike was the only adventurous one to go on the water… I just hanged back and read… So yeah, that is how it all happened… and for once keeping secrets from each other was acceptable (and fun) in our household! Happy Anniversary love!
