At the base os South Mountain rests this peculiar fortress, built by a father for his daughter Mary Lou. Mary Lou still lives there, she is now 82. It is crafted of colorful rocks, recicled items, flagstone and mortar. Inside it almost looks like a cavern, even a dungeon but it is a really good place to take visitors from out of town... I enjoyed myself there and the views are quite nice too.
The AZ Highways magazine where I saw descirbes it as sort of like touring a historic home, a second hand store and the setting of an old west movie... I would have to agree.
