The dog days of summer

It is hot around here! We have been in triple digits for quite some days now, so I am glad that we have been spending our mornings at the pool. Domenica is taking swim lessons, overall she has been doing really well. She is floating on her back, learning to do straight and faster kicks and working on strengthening her arms. Most days she was excited to go swimming but this week she was not having a very good week. She was eager to do most of her lesson but when it came to jumping from the deck and swimming to the teacher (something she was already doing during her first session), she froze, she cried, she refused.

All week I left feeling a combination of frustration and disappointment, mainly because she could not explain what was keeping her from doing it. The last class, which is supposed to be a celebration, was even worse as all she did was sit in the “time-out” chair… we left before the celebration.

We were quiet (except for the music on the radio) during the drive home. While stopped at a traffic light, I looked up the rear view mirror and what I saw made me quickly get my camera, which I had not being able to use during swim lessons.

So there I had been sitting disappointed because my daughter did not perform for me during swimming… instead she gave me a gift I will cherish forever.

Doesn't it always go like that? I often have had frustrating days of one of the kids following me everywhere and once when I asked why they were following me they said "because I love you so much." I stopped asking why I was being followed :). That's a very sweet memory to have of the Neni-bug :).
